Can men and women really be just friends or riding buddies?

Hey all:
I do believe that a man and a women can become friends, tease, sleep in a tent together.  It is not about sex, it is about respect.  If you respect each other you can be be great friends, even if you woke up spooning as long as you respect the others wishes not to be involve.  If you both get drunk and do something, you usually ruin the friendship, so your riding buddy is off limits. As a Registered  Nurse I have seen every part of the female body in the locker room, to them I am just another nurse.  Why does this happen, it is mutual respect that I will not do, say, try anything or imply anything.  SO that is my opinion.  I am looking for riding partner if anyone is interested.

hell yeah...I actually have more male friends than I do woman friends.  I work with a lot of guys and I see that side of them. They can just talk to me and not have that friction of making ( a friend) happy. YOU just are who you are and that expectation isnt there.  My friendships seem to last longer than my dating relationships.   And I  wouldnt give that bond as co workers/friend up for anything.  thanks guys and at least 10 of them also ride motorcycles which is cool in itself.

Hell yeah, men & women can be just friends or riding buddies....but not every man or woman. As long as both people are honest with each other and respect the other person, it is possible to be just friends or riding buddies. But the kicker is that it depends on the people involved. A person's character doesn't change...either they have scruples or they don't.

Do not really know that their is a set answer for every one. Maybe some men can be friends only, that does not mean that they have not considered more just that they have enough respect not to. But if a man or a woman has no physical attraction I would say it is possible. But if either one has a strong attraction at some point in time it will have to be addressed and then see where things go. Not a lot of men and I supposed women live by a code so that not matter how strong an attraction if the other person is involved in a relationship they will not cross the line for any reason. I live by this rule and know what it's like to have your bros cross that line, the relationship with both your partner and bros suffer if even survive. That's my thoughts.

I guess at my age there is more to riding than Tits in the back. I would prefer to ride with a women that has her own bike and a mind of her own. I guess that's why I enjoy life so much becuase I am free to go when and where the hell I want. I have been married for 48 years and am not simply looking for a piece of tale. I have women biker friend and they are a hellva good time.

The nature of riding creates an undercurrent of sex.

Agreed. They can. I have a spouse who no longer has any interest in going to bike rallies, or riding. I won't go into deep detail here, but she trusts me to go to these events alone. And that's unfortunately how I always go. ALONE. It would be nice to have a female riding partner, a woman to bounce ideas off of who isn't your wife of many years, who hasn't already heard all your jokes, just someone NEW to be friends with. I LIKE women as a species, but in some places (like here) being married (if you're a guy) is the kiss of death, as far as trying to find a female friend goes.
And I often take a VW Camper I restored to rallies and tow the bike (major back problems), so I have two beds, one up, one down, so it's even safer than a tent, as far as proximity goes. Doesn't matter. I've been on this board for weeks, and haven't got any takers. Oh well, three upcoming rallies I'll be going to ALONE, as usual.

I have never met a man that could sleep next to me and not try to cross the line (lol)!! I don't hold it against them of course and actually I would have to change my hair style or something if that started happening...........

Yes yes yes...you can have riding buddies and I have several. And I too can sleep next to them when we go on road trips w/o mistaking our relationship. And these guys are truly the most wonderful of friends. (You know who you are...)

Paddywaddy, If I was sleeping in the same tent with a chick. I would not be counting sheep or planning my breakfast.
An electrified fence would not keep me from crossing the line. It's just not going to work. Lol

you and i would have a problem then. there is that sexual attraction thing that might get in the way of our friendship. but if the sexual attraction thing would make us enemies ... then i guess i'd just have to hate you. LOL!

I gotta share a story with ya, I met a guy on a bike run in my area, he was pursuing me to no end. He was very serious and wanted commitment and I hardly knew him. Then I mentioned lets take it slow for now and be friends. Well he wrote that in stone, not to be changed. I found myself eventually falling for him, but he said no and reminded me that I said in the beginning that I wanted to be friends. Doesn't he realize that things can grow??? He put me through such an emotional roller coaster as I was trying to adjust to his needs and wants while all the while wasn't sure where I stood. Well his true colors finally came through and I now don't grace him with my presence anymore. Man, what a trip!!!! I guess he just wanted to be buddies with fringe benefits. I should have never gotten involved in that way and everything would of been fine. Live and learn!!!!

My experience is YES, you can be friends, but not if there is an attraction between you. For me it gets in the way, you worry if you have a nice bra on or what gonch you have on..lol..but if its just your friend you couldnt care less if you have a booger in your nose!!!lol So you act differently. On the positive side if you are friends first and the attraction grows from that, its called love

I live in a very small community. Summner brings lots of tourists. The locals here all know everyone. During the warmer months we all meet at our local watering hole to listen to the bands and say hi to those we haven't since since we came out of our hibernation. We have local poker runs. Friends, male and female, all attend these events. My friends are my friends, and they are just that. I cherish my friendships as good friends are hard to come by. Relationships can fizzle out in time and they come and go for whatever reasons.... but friends are friends the rest of my life. Yes, men and women can just be friends or riding buddies. We are Brother's and Sister's who share a common interest and that love of riding is our bond. This is how I see it but I guess it depends where your head is at?

- that doesn't mean you are going to try to pursue anything more than friendship. There is such a thing as "honor" and I believe that there are MEN who have honor when it comes to women, even if they are attracted to them.
I would wonder about the character of a person who did not believe a man and woman can be "just" friends. They are showing a lack of trust in their partner, immaturity and doesn't that then say something about whether or not THEY are trust worthy??
